Palliative Care Support

Merritt Hospice volunteers provide support through visitation and companionship for individuals and families who are facing a life limiting illness. Volunteers visit in the home, hospital or care facility, offering companionship, respite, and practical assistance. The focus is on making the last stages of life comfortable for both the client and their loved ones.

Home and Community Care refer palliative care clients to Hospice for support. Referrals can also be made by family, friends, hospital or long-term care staff, or the client themselves.

The Hospice Coordinator will meet with the client/family to discuss how the program works and how it might best serve the client's needs and wishes. Should the client/family agree to receive Hospice services, a specific volunteer will be assigned to support the family throughout the journey. There is no charge for Hospice services.
